Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District

The Humboldt Bay Municipal Water District (HBMWD) designed and implemented an innovative and highly participatory public planning process about water use, a controversial subject in a drought-prone state. The process resulted in three promising solutions that the District is pursuing and that all stakeholder groups support.

The Los Angeles Citywide Neighborhood Council System

In order to unite disenfranchised parts of the City, the citizens of Los Angeles voted the Neighborhood Council system into the City Charter in 1999. The Neighborhood Councils have created a citywide community of volunteers, increasing civic participation and making government more responsive to local needs.

The DA’s Office establishes mentoring relationships with students and helps them develop leadership skills.

Participatory Budgeting in Yanjian County

Yanjian county had long been suffering from low rate of financial self-sufficiency, though this was largely mitigated when the county-supervised village finance system was implemented in 2008. As a result, in 2012, the county government of Yanjian created a participatory budgeting project in two of its townships: Miaobai and Dousha.
