A series of public dialogues took place across three areas in the UK. The projects sought to engage the public with nature improvement areas planning processes. The nature of the projects varied widely in each case.

The Nanotechnology Engagement Group consisted of experts set up to investigate “upstream engagement” in the context of 6 different public engagement projects on nanotechnology.

Nanodialogues engaged the public on how to take forward the new and challenging area of nanotechnology research [1]. It incorporated four different experiments in public dialogue; public inquiry, focus groups, stakeholder workshops and deliberative dialogues.

The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority commissioned a five-strand, multi-method research and engagement project looking at the possible social and ethical issues and arguments relating to the techniques.

Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) launched a major public consultation on the creation and use of human-animal embryos for research, involving 104 participants in two part deliberative workshops.

The Health Research Authority sought to gain a better understanding of public attitudes towards the research approval process of health research and clinical trials. Their wide-ranging programme of work included dialogue workshops with patients and members of the general public.

The Health Research Authority (HRA) in conjunction with Sciencewise commissioned OPM Group to run a public dialogue on identifying and recruiting participants for health research, involving 8 public dialogue workshops. [1]
